PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia is getting more than $8 million in federal funding to boost its public transit system for the FIFA World Cup games starting in June.
Congressman Brendan Boyle announced the funding on Tuesday.
The Democrat said the money will help expand transit capacity and improve operations in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas.
The funding was awarded through the Federal Transit Administration's World Cup Public Transportation Formula.
The program ensures that host cities can meet increased demand for service around stadiums, and throughout their transit networks.
