Philadelphia Water Department raising rates to support aging infrastructure

Thursday, August 28, 2025
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia Water Department is turning up the pressure.

The utility company is raising rates starting next week.

Beginning September 1, Philadelphia water rates will increase by nearly 10%, or $8.

That would bring the average bill to about $91.

Then bills will go up again the following September.

The increase is to support aging infrastructure and prevent things like water main breaks, sink holes and bursting pipes.
