Phillies fans excited as team could clinch division

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Phillies fans packed the parking lots outside Citizens Bank Park on Sunday morning, kicking off a full day of tailgating ahead of a major Philly sports day where the Phils could first clinch the division before the Eagles play in a Super Bowl rematch.

With the Phillies set to play at 1:35 p.m. and the Eagles scheduled for later in the afternoon, fans came prepared for an all-day celebration.

"Bacon, eggs, pork roll on an English muffin. We got smash burgers later this afternoon for lunch, it's an all day affair here," said Eric Kunkel of Cape May.

The Phillies are on the verge of clinching the National League East for the second consecutive year.

A win, or a Mets loss, would seal the division title.

The team beat the Royals 8-6 Saturday night, powered by hot hitting, including Kyle Schwarber's 51st home run of the season - just seven shy of Ryan Howard's franchise record. Otto Kemp also made an impact, hitting a double.

"I go back to 2023 where like the next man, they kinda just seem to be there for each other and wanting to do it. They just want to win," Kunkel said.

"Somebody goes down, somebody goes in, they play just as well," added Jedd Dojan of Leesport.

Fans showed up in their Phillies gear, celebrating the team's success while preparing to switch into Eagles attire for the evening matchup.

"Phillies, city of brotherly love," said Leslie Baeza of Fairless Hills, who planned to change outfits after the game.

"Right after this, we gotta clean up, we gotta go and we gotta go cheer for the Eagles," she said.

The Eagles are facing off against Kansas City, and for fans like Dylan Ulinski of Levittown, the day's schedule is tightly packed.

"From here, the plan is for me to go to my friend's house. Even if I show up a little bit late," Ulinski said.

As the city braces for a potential division title and a huge football showdown, fans are making the most of a packed day when two of Philadelphia's teams take center stage.
