PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia Zoo is mourning the loss of one of its beloved lions.
Makini, a 17-and-a-half-year-old African lion, was humanely euthanized after severe arthritis left him weak and struggling to walk.
Makini spent most of his life at the zoo and fathered four cubs.
The zoo says it's now working with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums on the future of lions there.
