The suspect was reportedly driving a black or dark-colored Mazda SUV.
According to investigators, the first crash occurred just after 7 p.m. at 16th and Arch streets, where the SUV struck a 59-year-old woman who was crossing the street. Police said the driver fled the scene.
Moments later, the same vehicle crashed into a Kia at 17th and Arch streets, one block away. Police said the Mazda SUV T-boned the Kia before fleeing south on 17th Street.
The pedestrian suffered a broken leg and was taken to Jefferson Hospital, police said.
The 29-year-old woman driving the Kia was also transported to Jefferson Hospital with leg and hip pain.
Investigators said real-time crime cameras captured both crashes, as well as the suspect vehicle's license plate.
"We know the vehicle we're looking for. That vehicle is registered to an address in South Philly, so we're pretty confident we're going to be able to identify or locate the vehicle. Hopefully, we can locate the driver of the vehicle," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
Both victims are expected to survive as the investigation continues.
