Police respond after shooting at Norristown State Hospital in Montgomery County

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- Police responded to Norristown State Hospital in Montgomery County on Friday morning after officials say a man attempted suicide.

Officers were dispatched to the hospital in the 1000 block of Sterigere Street around 7:30 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

When they arrived, police found a 25-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken to Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital in East Norriton, where he is reportedly still being treated



Pennsylvania State Police is investigating.

Norristown State Hospital is a long-term psychiatric facility, according to the State of Pennsylvania.

The hospital provides treatment for patients with severe and persistent mental illness.

There is no known motive and this isolated incident presents no danger to the public.
