It happened in the 100 block of Passaic Street around 9 p.m. on Thursday.
Police say the victims include a 16-year-old girl and three men.
All four victims were rushed to the hospital.
Investigators say one of the men, 24-year-old Karan Hunter, was pronounced dead a short time later.
There's no immediate word on the conditions of the others.
Police say the group was standing outside when someone pulled up in a vehicle, opened fire and drove away.
No arrests have been made.
