PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- All of the training and hours of hard work paid off for runners competing in the 2026 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run, particularly for the athletes who emerged as winners across multiple divisions.

Josh Izewski captured the men's title, earning his second consecutive victory in the 10-mile race. Cheering crowds lined the streets as he crossed the finish line with a time of 45:08, beating his personal best from last year and setting a new course record.

"I feel good it was a great day the streets are lined with people there's no other ten mile race like this in the country," Izewski said.

Originally from Bucks County, Izewski credited both the conditions and the spectators for helping him push through the race.

"It doesn't hurt the weather was great this year that you have people yelling for you the whole way so your adrenaline gets you going and kicks in," he said.

Tessa Barrett won the women's division, finishing in 52:24. Originally from Scranton, the 2026 event marked her first time running the Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run.

"I heard my name out there a lot which I wasn't expecting... Pennsylvania always such a special spot in my heart even though I don't live here anymore," Barrett said.

The favorable weather also contributed to strong performances across other divisions. Winter Parts won the non-binary category with a time of 52:04, setting a new course record.

"Today was so perfect Philly is such a great city to race in Philly is a cool city so just a great day," Parts said.

In the wheelchair division, Tony Nogueira claimed the overall win with a time of 38:46. The Glen Ridge, New Jersey, native is a veteran of the race and trains daily.

"Follow your dreams this is one of my dreams. I found wheel chair racing and I fell in love I never looked back," Nogueira said.

Many runners say the unique atmosphere is what keeps them coming back year after year. For Izewski, consistency and improvement remain the goal as he looks ahead.

"Stay consistent see if I can top what I did this year. End of day crossing the finish line is the most important thing," he said.

With record-setting performances, supportive crowds and ideal conditions, the 2026 Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run once again proved why it stands out for athletes who return to run it year after year.
