PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- SEPTA is highlighting what it calls a dramatic drop in crime on transit.

Officials with the transit agency say recent safety and security enhancements fueled a 21% reduction in serious crimes in the second quarter of this year, including a 40% decrease in aggravated assaults.

That's compared to the same period last year.

SEPTA credits an increased investment in recruiting and retaining transit police officers.

The SEPTA police force now has 220 officers.
