Storm damage causes power outages, fallen trees across parts of Montgomery County

LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- Cleanup is underway after a line of strong storms swept through the region on Wednesday, bringing powerful winds, heavy rain and scattered damage across Montgomery County and neighboring areas.

The storms knocked down trees, downed power lines and left thousands of residents without electricity, according to footage and reports from affected communities.

Video from Montgomery County shows intense winds and rain moving through neighborhoods, with one strong gust toppling a large tree in Pottstown.

Additional footage captured a lightning strike in Wilmington, Delaware, and pebble-sized hail falling in Malvern, Chester County.

The damage extended to homes and roadways. In Pottstown, a tree fell onto a house, while in Berwyn, another tree landed on power lines along Waterloo Road and caught fire.

By Thursday, crews were out clearing debris as residents assessed the aftermath. Aerial images from Lower Pottsgrove Township show downed wires crossing a residential block and a large tree branch split and fallen into the street.

Power outages remained an issue in some areas. The PECO outage map indicated that hundreds of customers in the Pottstown area were still without electricity as cleanup efforts continued.

One resident said the intensity of the storm came as a surprise.

"Suddenly, the wind picked up, and all sorts of debris was hitting the house. I had no idea that this had happened until it was over," said Gary Frisoli of Lower Pottsgrove Township.

Crews are continuing to restore power and clear debris as communities recover from the storm's impact.
