'Surfing Santas' make a splash for Christmas in July in North Wildwood

NORTH WILDWOOD, New Jersey (WPVI) -- Surfers wearing Santa hats caught some waves for a good cause this morning. It kicked off a day full of 'Christmas in July' festivities in North Wildwood.

The event was organized in part by Kortnie Davidson, who first heard of the global 'Surfing Santas' phenomenon in Cocoa Beach, Florida. There, surfers gather for a massive event on Christmas Eve each year.

This year, Davidson brought her own version of the surfing event to North Wildwood for the first time.

It joins a beloved 'Christmas in July' tradition across the city, featuring visits from Santa on the beach, candy cane distributions, live music, and more in partnership with the North Wildwood Beach Patrol.

Donations were collected at the 'Surfing Santas' event to benefit the Cape May County Animal Shelter.

Davidson hopes to bring it back and make it even bigger next year.
