PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police say they have made an arrest in the deadly shooting of a woman in South Philadelphia.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday on the 2600 block of Latona Street.

When police arrived, they found 28-year-old Amira Harper suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The victim's husband, Zakiyy Bonds, 28, of Philadelphia, has been charged in the killing.

"It's really a tragedy. It's heartbreaking," said Latifah Holloway. She's just one of many neighbors still trying to process the tragic death of Harper.

"I'm devastated. She's friends with my daughter. She's like a daughter to me, and her kids always come over here. They play with my grandchildren," added Holloway.

Sources tell Action News the couple was in their kitchen when Bonds fired 11 shots. He was holding a 1-year-old baby at the time. Other children were in the living room.

"I didn't know them well, but they were neighborly," said Anthony Carden. He added that the family recently moved to the area.

"The family took care of their children, and that's what hurts most. The children's lives are forever going to be affected," said Carden.

Carden said he didn't hear the gunshots, but he saw the aftermath.

"I did see the family run, and that's hard to forget," he recalled.

Police found Bonds hiding in a backyard and took him into custody.

While investigators collected evidence inside the home Saturday night, loved ones embraced each other on the street.

"It's traumatic for all of us," said Carden. "I pray for the family. My heart goes out to them, particularly the children."

The family asked for privacy as they grieve this unthinkable loss.

Bonds is charged with murder, recklessly endangering another person and other related offenses.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
