PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Temple University has identified the student who was killed in a shooting off-campus Thursday night in North Philadelphia.

Chase Myles, a native of Bowie, Maryland, and an undergraduate student in the Klein College of Media and Communication, was shot around 11 p.m. in the 1500 block of N. Carlisle Street.

It's right outside off-campus housing for Temple students.

"Out of nowhere, it sounded like it was right next to your face. You just heard a couple gunshots," said Temple student Mitchell Elliott.

When police arrived, they found Myles, 20, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police say the victim and the suspected shooter were involved in some kind of altercation. Police say it's possible the shooting was the result of a drug deal gone bad.

"We believe it may have been narcotics-related because we found a green bag with what appears to be filled with marijuana on the scene," said Chief Inspector Scott Small with the Philadelphia Police Department.

Another Temple student, 23-year-old Nicholas Iaderosa of the 1400 block of North Carlisle Street, was arrested and will be charged with murder and related offenses.

According to the university's president, the two knew each other and planned to meet Thursday night.

The university said Myles "was well-known to his peers at Klein and was respected by faculty and staff alike."

"There is no doubt that Chase was a deeply valued member of our community, which is what makes delivering this news especially difficult. The loss of his life leaves a significant void within Temple and Klein," the statement reads.

Temple President John Fry released a statement Friday morning saying, in part, "I am heartbroken by the senseless loss of such a young life. This tragedy is difficult to comprehend, and my thoughts and prayers are with all who are grieving."

Support services are available to students at Tuttleman Counseling Services.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Philadelphia police.
