WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- Authorities are searching for a driver who fled after an SUV plowed through a neighborhood, damaging homes, utility poles and gas meters and injuring a woman on Thursday, according to officials in Wilmington.

Neighbors saw, heard, and felt the impact.

"All of a sudden, my whole house started shaking, and I heard a really loud noise, and it sounded like something was coming towards my house," said Jeniffer Hummel, who lives nearby.

"We heard the loud sound and then we seen the car flip in the air," added Alicia Ballard. "We seen it hit the homes and we just started praying."

Police said an SUV struck a car, overturned several times and then crashed into three homes and two utility poles, bringing down multiple power lines. The driver ran from the scene.

Dorothy White said she rushed to help the woman whose car was hit.

"She laid down and she was like, 'I can't feel my legs,'" White said.

Joseph Harrison said a friend of his lives in one of the damaged homes and said she often sits outside on her step in the afternoon.

Fortunately, Thursday was not one of those days.

"She's shaken up because they always sit out there. She's really shaken up. But she's glad that her kids and her are good," Harrison said.

Delmarva Power said repairs to damaged gas meters have been completed and service has returned to normal.

Police continue to search for the driver who fled the crash.
