Their latest paper bills show they suddenly owe thousands of dollars.
The Troubleshooters are hearing from a lot of consumers after their May bills show that they owe mind-boggling amounts. Fortunately, the Troubleshooters reached out to Atlantic City Electric and got it all sorted out.
Randy Wolfe of Swedesboro, New Jersey, showed the Troubleshooters his bill. It says he owes $8,928 for one month. He says, initially, he was shocked and then said, "We're going to fix this."
Wolfe says he knew it had to be a mistake, especially since his previous bill indicated his balance was $104.85, but his new May bill indicated that same previous balance was $10,485.
He tells the Troubleshooters, "their decimal points are off by two places."
Wolfe also says he was worried about businesses and individual customers on AutoPay. He says his concern was they might not be aware of the outrageous error.
The Troubleshooters reached out to Atlantic City Electric, and the company sent an explanation.
"We are aware that a small subset of Atlantic City Electric customers are receiving paper bills with inaccurate charges and balance information due to a printing error with our billing vendor. This issue is limited to certain mailed bills only and customer online accounts reflect the correct billing and account information. This issue does not impact the autopay function on customer accounts. We are actively working to correct the issue and will mail revised bills to any impacted customers.
We are taking proactive steps to alert affected customers of the billing error including direct emails and phone calls, in addition to website updates.
We understand how important billing accuracy is and are reviewing our processes to help prevent this from happening again. If a customer has an online My Account, they can log in at atlanticcityelectric.com to view their accurate and up-to-date bill amount. No action is required unless customers have questions or concerns. If customers have questions, they can contact Atlantic City Electric Customer Service at 800-642-3780. Customer Care representatives are available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday."
Wolfe tells Action News he's worried about late payment fees because he isn't planning to pay his current bill until he receives a revised, corrected version in the mail.
Atlantic City Electric confirms no late payment fees will be assessed for impacted customers.
