Driver struck by trailer while jumping from vehicle before truck falls off Wilmington bridge

WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- A man was struck by a trailer after jumping from a truck before the vehicle fell off a bridge Friday morning in Wilmington, Delaware.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. on New Bridge Road, at the bridge crossing Brandywine Creek.

New Castle County Paramedics and the Talleyville Fire Company responded to the area for a large commercial vehicle that had fallen off the roadway after crashing through a barrier wall of a bridge.

Chopper 6 was over the scene, where you could see that the truck was in a ditch below the bridge.

Officials say the 27-year-old driver was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.



The incident is currently under investigation by the Delaware State Police.
