The incident ended with the arrest of Michael Smith from Philadelphia. He adamantly denies the accusations against him.
The victim identified herself as Mary, but she asked not to use her last name for fear of retaliation.
Mary and Smith's cars were parked next to each other. Mary's shopping cart was in between the cars, blocking the suspect's wife from being able to get into the passenger side.
What should have been a minor inconvenience escalated quickly.
"His wife comes up to the passenger side of their car and pretty much demands for us to like get out of the way so that she can get into the car. And I was like, 'Hold on, I only have a few more things to put away,'" Mary recalls. "At this point it just like explodes."
"So basically what happened was he wanted the lady to get out of the way when he wanted her to, but the world don't revolve around him," witness Nazir Allford said.
Allford was a bystander. He offered to help Mary put her cart back.
"For some odd reason, he like targets the guy who was waiting for my cart to put it away, and he starts like spewing racial remarks which was just like totally uncalled for," Mary said.
That's when Mary whipped out her phone to record Smith.
"Next thing you know, that's when he grabbed her and literally tried to attack her," Allford said.
"That's when he lunges at me and grabbed my arms. And I started screaming because that's what you're supposed to do in those situations," Mary said.
We talked to Smith and his wife on the phone. They tell the story differently, saying they politely asked Mary to move her cart because the woman has a bad knee, and Mary told them they had to wait.
Smith denies making any racially charged remarks and says he became upset when Mary threatened to post his license plate online, but denies ever touching her.
Police say Smith then sped off in his truck, hitting two parked cars in the process. He says he wasn't aware he hit anything.
"The behavior is just unacceptable. We're living in a crazy world," Mary said. "It went from 0 to 60."
Smith was charged with assault, disorderly conduct, harassment and property damage.
