After a hiatus, the summer solstice celebration is back. But with a later start time and a more adult vibe, The Kimmel Center's Artistic Director, Jay Wahl, says Solstice in the City will be different than ever before.

"Imagine your favorite summer night. You got the window down and you're driving. This is the kind of music you just turn up and kick back and let the wind blow through your hair and your face and listen to."

Music from local band Real Estate and a glimpse at the future of jazz and sounds from Philly native, DJ Mr. Best are just a few of the highlights.

"It'll be a really great scene. I think for college students or lovers of young indie rock, it's a really great opportunity," says Wahl, "In SEI Innovation Studio, we're going to be doing the world premiere of three highly innovative collaborative jazz projects featuring local musicians."

And Solstice wouldn't be complete without cocktails and small bites from Chef Jose Garces and fun games to keep the party going through the night.

"We have a sort of groove lounge atmosphere where you'll get a cocktail and you'll hang out on a chair and play some ping pong and be with your friends and dance," says Wahl, "we're going to have ping pong and skeeball and foosball and all sorts of fun games for you to hang out in the plaza."

Wahl says the mood should be fun and laid back, "I want to be able to call everyone I know and say hey to my neighbors, 'hey it's Saturday Night, come on down to the Kimmel and just have a beer with me.' That's who this is for."

Solstice in the City is June 21st from 8pm until 2am. For tickets go to www.TheArtsinPhilly.org.
