Water flooded the street, slowing traffic.

Philadelphia Water Department crews responded to the scene as police set up a detour and SEPTA re-routed buses that pass through the area.

The water department was able to shut off the valves supplying the ruptured 12-inch main shortly after 7:00 a.m.

No customers have been affected by the shutoff.

Repair work was set to begin later Tuesday morning.

The incident caused a large traffic backup on the northbound boulevard during the Tuesday morning rush hour.
