WINSLOW TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- Police in Camden County, NJ, are investigating a hit-and-run crash that left one man dead.

It was around 7:30 p.m. Saturday when police say Jon Kitzmiller, 36, of Sicklerville was walking in the road in the area of Andrews Road and Lehigh Manor Drive when he was struck by a vehicle.

Police say he was walking westbound when he was hit, and the driver didn't stop.

Elizabeth Sanchez was visiting her daughter, who lives along Andrews Road, on Saturday evening.

"I heard somebody say, 'Call 911!' I looked out the door and the guy was lying over here in the street," recalled Sanchez.

She says several people stopped to help, but not the driver of the striking vehicle.

"There was a car over there and we kept saying, 'Where's the driver? Did they just take off?'" said Sanchez.

She says one woman saw the victim in the road and turned around.

"She was saying, 'Stay with me, stay with me. Don't go to sleep.' My heart was just breaking," said Sanchez.

Police say the victim was taken to Jefferson Hospital in Sewell, where he later died.

Detectives are now tracking down leads, looking for the driver.

"It's very sad. 36 years old, in the prime of his life. It's terrible. I hope they catch 'em," said Wallace Barnette, who lives near the scene.

No word on what kind of vehicle police are looking for.

Anyone with information on the crash or with video is asked to contact Winslow Township police.
