WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police are investigating the death of a 62-year-old woman, who was found beaten and naked in her West Philadelphia home.

The murder of Saundra Barley has neighbors and family members saddened and angry.

"I'm grieving. I'm all over the place trying to get things set up for her funeral," said Barley's daughter, Felicia Barley.

"Miss Saundra was a sweet lady, would always sit on her porch, mind her business, speak to you and everything," said neighbor Virginia Mayo. "She didn't deserve this. She didn't deserve this."

Authorities found Barley naked and beaten in the front bedroom of a home in the unit block of 53rd Street around 3:00 a.m.

A roommate told detectives that 3 masked men broke into the home and struggled with Barley and her roommate.

But police say they found no evidence of a break-in or burglary. They are questioning the woman's story.

The roommate had some bruises as well. She was taken into police custody and is being treated at a local hospital.

Action News asked a family member who the roommate is and why she was at the home.

"My mom was a kind-hearted person and gave place to the homeless," said Felicia Barley.

"I don't know too much about her," said Saundra Barley's nephew, Troy Barley. "I know one thing: I didn't like her. I knew she was a controlling type of person."

The roommate hasn't been charged. Police are continuing to question her.

Relatives say she lived with Barley for almost a year, and they'd seen evidence of abuse before. But Barley always said she was fine and refused to press charges.

"She was beautiful woman," said Troy Barley. "She'd help you, give you the shirt off her back. That's how she (the roommate) got in there, because my aunt cared."
