Woman shot and killed by police in Lacey Twp., New Jersey identified

LACEY TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- Authorities have identified the woman who was shot and killed by police earlier this week in Lacey Township, Ocean County.

Susanne Clarke, 55, a resident of the township, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting early Monday morning.

According to the New Jersey Attorney General's Office, police responded to a 911 call reporting a medical event at a home on Hemlock Drive near Birch Road in Lanoka Harbor just after 2 a.m.

At around 2:44 a.m., police say there was an encounter with Clarke, who was the person who called 911.

During that encounter, Lacey Township Police Officer Dallas Gant fired his service weapon, striking Clarke, investigators said.



The details of that encounter have not been disclosed.

Clarke was pronounced dead at 3:24 a.m.

Officers recovered a knife at the scene outside the home, the attorney general's office said.

An investigation into this incident is ongoing.
