Some just make sense, such as sharing entrees or skipping apps and desserts, but others are things to take note of.

First, keep track of Restaurant Week and throughout the Philadelphia area, there are many events throughout the year.

From Center City, to specific neighborhoods within the city and suburbs, to New Jersey and the shore - restaurant weeks offer the best deals of the year including prix fixe meals and other incentives.

Next, attend a restaurant's soft open.

There are tons of new restaurants opening around town, including an unprecedented boom happening right now in Philadelphia. Oftentimes, before the grand opening there's a soft launch where you can sample the menu at a discounted price.

Also, avoid specials. Credit.com says they're often more expensive than items on the menu and we don't often know what we're paying because the prices often aren't advertised. Make sure to ask before you order to avoid that trap.

Always check your credit card to find out about cash back or points rewards on your purchase and make sure to take advantage of the benefits

Finally, let deal websites like Groupon and Restaurant.com hunt down the dining discounts for you. Always check before you make a reservation.
