Gunfire erupted after 1 a.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Allman Street.
Officers arrived to find a 49-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest area.
They rushed him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators are working to determine who shot the man and why.
