Man shot to death in broad daylight near Temple University in North Philadelphia

Philadelphia police say a 35-year-old man was shot multiple times.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man was shot and killed in broad daylight near the Temple University campus in North Philadelphia on Friday.

It happened just after 2 p.m. at Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue.

Police say that's where a 35-year-old man was shot multiple times.

He was taken to Temple Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The shooting occurred during a busy time of day. The intersection has a campus bookstore, student housing and various restaurants. The area is also nearby a busy stop on SEPTA's Broad Street Line.

"I don't feel safe here. I'm from Brazil, which is a dangerous country, but I feel safer there than here," said Temple senior Nathalia Reboucas.



According to 6abc's Data Journalism Team, using Philadelphia Police's crime data and Temple's boundaries, there have been a total of 65 aggravated assault firearm and robbery firearm crimes so far this year as of July 13. That's up about an 8% increase from last year.

No arrests have been made in Friday's shooting and there has been no word on what led to the shooting.

The victim's name has not been released.
