The fire started just before 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Tequilas on the 1600 block of Locust Street.
The owners of the restaurant say the fire started in the kitchen.
Chopper 6 was overhead as crews worked to get it under control.
No injuries were reported.
A notice on the restaurant's website reads, "A kitchen fire on February 9, 2023, has forced us to shut down until further notice. We will work as quickly as possible to remedy this situation. Stay posted to this website for further updates."
On Thursday morning, the restaurant gave an update on its Instagram page, saying:
"For those of you who haven't heard, we are sadden to announce our restaurant has caught fire. We want to first thank all of first responder and staff for their quick actions and our loyal customers who have reached out to make sure we are all safe. Most importantly, we are all safe and no persons were harmed.
"The unknown is scary. We do not know answers, we do not know when we will be back open. We do know the strength we carry within us and we will be okay. Please keep our family and business in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Xoxo"
The restaurant has been serving the Philadelphia community for more than three decades.
