City of Philadelphia declares an Excessive Heat Warning Again

Friday, July 21, 2017
Philadelphia (WPVI) -- The City of Philadelphia declared an Excessive Heat Warning again on Friday as the Delaware Valley's heatwave continued.

The declaration activates the Philadelphia Corporation for the Aging's Heatline: 215-765-9040.

The call center will be prepared to help callers of all ages who are trying to cope with the heat.

In addition to the Heatline activation, the City's website says the declaration means the following: All residential utility shutoffs are stopped, mobile health teams have been dispatched and cooling center hours may be extended.

A Code Red is declared when consecutive hot days create unhealthy conditions that increase the risk of heat-related illnesses. City officials are urging all residents to check on neighbors and elderly friends to make sure they are taking care of themselves in the heat. Some elderly cannot regulate temperatures well, and are susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
