Officials say the officers were responding to a call on the 500 block of Center Street just after midnight Saturday, which resulted from an encounter with an individual in a motor vehicle.
That's when authorities say an officer opened fire during the incident, hitting the driver, who remains in stable condition.
The officer has not been reported injured. It is still unclear what sparked the incident.
All involved officers have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol.
The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office is further investigating the shooting at this time.
