3,000-year-old prosthetic toe discovered in Egyptian tomb

Tuesday, June 20, 2017
LUXOR, Egypt (WPVI) -- Experts are studying what could be one of the oldest prosthetic devices in human history after they found an artificial, wooden big toe from an Egyptian tomb.

The toe is almost 3,000 years old and was found in a woman's burial site near the city of Luxor.

Experts say it was re-fitted several times for it's owner, who was a priest's daughter.

Just like prosthetics made today, they could tell the goal was to make the device look natural and feel comfortable.
