The group was started about four years ago by Andrew Graham, who moved to Philadelphia from Wyoming and was looking to meet new people.
It started with playing a few passersby in Rittenhouse Square. Now, it is in an online group with more than 1,000 members.
They meet most Wednesdays at 6:00pm and Sundays at 1:00pm. The gatherings are free and loyal members are known to provide mats and pieces for everyone to play.
The group has also branched out to hosting tournaments, with a recent outing tallying roughly 60 competitors.
