'Safe Harbor' embraces those bracing for winter storm in Chester County

Saturday, January 24, 2026
WEST CHESTER, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- This Chester County shelter is providing a 'Safe Harbor' to those in need during this weekend's winter storm.

On a typical day, Safe Harbor of Chester County is home to 40 beds for unhoused individuals. They also provide meals, social services, life skills training, and more to get people back on their feet.

Safe Harbor is an official 'Code Blue' shelter, allowing them to take in individuals who are not regular residents during dangerously cold temperatures.

As of January 24, they have already reached capacity for their designated Code Blue beds. Yet, they must prepare for a winter storm to roll in on Sunday.

Due to the weather, Safe Harbor has brought in additional personnel to work extra hours, and receive extra pay, to help keep residents indoors throughout the day.

They will be providing meals, playing games, watching movies, and more as the snow falls.

The shelter also provides a care cart outside their front door for locals to pick up hats, gloves, and jackets free of charge.
