PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- Dr. Inessa Parkansky of Churchville, Pennsylvania, now calls her daughter, 'doctor,' as well.

27-year-old Phyllis followed her mother's medical footsteps and graduated from Temple University today.

Inessa was born in the former Soviet Union and immigrated to the United States with her parents in the 1980s. She followed her dreams of becoming a physician by studying at Temple University.

When she graduated in 1999, 6-month-old Phyllis was by her side.

Phyllis, ever inspired by her mother's immigrant story and medical journey, knew what kind of path she wanted to follow.

Phyllis will specialize in urology, while her mother specializes in nephrology.

She and fellow graduates of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University enjoyed a ceremony today at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.

There, Phyllis chose her mother to place the ceremonial hood on her shoulders.
