Jessica Boyington checks out three more iconic sandwich shops in this week's Top 6.
MARINUCCI'S - Port Richmond
At Marinucci's, a pound of Dietz and Watson meats are hand sliced onto each and every hoagie. There are three locations, so you won't have to go far to try it out.
What I loved:
-The Grace Marie (turkey, imported ham, cooper sharp, roasted red peppers, and all the toppings, on a seeded roll)
-The Nucci (An upgraded Italian, with sharp provolone, prosciutto, and roasted red peppers.)
POE'S SANDWICH JOINT (at Human Robot Brewery) - North Philadelphia
If you're jonesing for a cold beer and a stacked sandwich, Human Robot Brewery in North Philly should make your list. Grab a summer ale brewed right on the premises, and poke your head in the window at Poe's Sandwich Joint, and let the boys whip you up one of their specialty hoagies.
What I loved:
-The Whopper (Italian with sopressata, pepperoni, pepper ham, arugula, roasted red peppers, balsamic mayo, and hand pulled mozzarella)
-The Hamilton (chicken cutlet with cooper sharp, bacon, french fries, scallions, and homemade ranch dressing)
JACK'S PLACE - Tacony
Jack's Place has sat on the same corner for 31 years. The only thing more loyal than the customers that come here hoping to win a giant sandwich each Friday are the women who own and operate it. Every day, they make roast pork, turkey, meatballs, cutlets, and sauces right in this kitchen.
What I loved:
-The hot roast pork with broccoli rabe
-The original Italian (with long hot oil)
-The meatball hoagie with sharp provolone
-ANY hoagie with a chicken cutlet on it
