The Philadelphia Zoo's Calendar of Events

Zoo events for 2008 and 2009!
PHILADELPHIA, PA (PHILADELPHIA, PA) - As the weather outside turns frightful, kids of all ages can warm up and discover all the wild things at the Philadelphia Zoo! Families can connect with the environment we share and visit over 1,300 animals inside the Zoo's 42-acres of gardens, including six fully-heated indoor exhibits of mammals, reptiles and amphibians. Guests can take a spin on the Zoo's brand new and "green" Amazon Rainforest Carousel. The carousel features hand-carved and hand-painted pieces modeled after many endangered species found within the Amazon Rainforest, is made from FSC-certified wood and illuminated by LED lights. Best of all, the Amazon Rainforest Carousel is open all winter long!

December through February, ticket prices are reduced to $12.95 for adults and children ages 2-11!

NOVEMBER

Special Screenings - Animal Planet's "Orangutan Island"

Join us Saturday, November 8th, and Sunday, November 9th, and be among the first to see Animal Planet's season two premiere of "Orangutan Island." America's First Zoo will hold special screenings regularly throughout the weekend in our award-winning Bank of America Big Cat Falls Theater. "Orangutan Island's" Executive Producer, Martha Ripp, will introduce the first screening at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8th, followed by a special meet-and-greet at noon. In addition to special keeper talks and demonstrations, guests of the Zoo can also visit the Zoo's orangutans, Sugi and Tua, inside the fully-heated PECO Primate Reserve and discover fascinating facts about these wonderful creatures while learning ways to help protect orangutans in the wild. On Saturday, November 8th only, the first 150 children receive a special orangutan plush toy. Children must be present to receive.

"Beast Feast;" Late-night Snack Version

Families from all over the region can experience a very special Zoo "beast feast" after dark! Learn how the Zoo uses locally-grown produce as animal enrichment year-round as guests hike the Zoo after dark and make an autumnal craft to take home. Space is limited. "Creatures of the Night" Family Overnight

Owls, bats, porcupines....oh my! Some of the coolest creatures come out at night! Join us for a fun night of exploring America's First Zoo after dark and learn all about our nocturnal friends. Families will hike the Zoo and learn how animals survive...and thrive...after dark! Camp out in one of our heated, indoor classrooms, discover your Zoo after dark and make a cool craft to take home with you. A snack and light breakfast are included. Space is limited. Animals are a favorite part of many holidays. During the Zoo's Holidoze Pajama Prowl, guests can earn how your favorite critters are celebrated around the world! Families will visit a heated, indoor animal house, meet animals up-close-and-personal and make a winter-themed craft to take home. Space is limited. Advanced reservations are required. Guests are invited to join us in the Zoo's historic Treehouse to meet Santa, make special holiday crafts, explore holiday traditions from different cultures and enjoy festive games. The temperatures are dropping and winter is in full-swing. While humans turn up the heat to avoid the bitter cold, the Zoo's animals have a different idea of what it takes to survive the winter. Bundle-up and head out for an evening hike and see first-hand which animals love the cold and which ones would rather avoid it.
