The reduction comes after the New Jersey Turnpike Authority - which also operated the Parkway - analyzed five years of accident data and determined a high rate of serious accidents along that stretch.
Besides lowering the speed limit in the area, officials plan engineering and design improvements for the stretch to help reduce accidents. The Authority expects to spend $1.2 million over next year for the interim repairs and long-term design work.
