Gas price gougers now face tougher penalties in New Jersey. Gov. Corzine has signed legislation increasing fines for violating state law on gasoline pricing.

The new law increases fines from $200 per offense to as much as $3,000 per offense.

The state's gas gouging law makes it illegal to display a fuel price different from what is charged, or to change the selling price more than once in any 24-hour period.
