9 disciplined after patient escape, suicide

WINSLOW, N.J. (AP) - January 5, 2008 The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill reported that the disciplinary action was announced yesterday by the state Department of Human Services.

DeWitt Crandell Jr. wandered away from the Winslow institution in December.

He was found one day later in Hammonton, and was supposed to be under a 24-hour suicide watch when he returned to the facility.

But Crandell was later found dead, hanging by a bedsheet in a bathroom.

The CEO of the facility was reassigned days after Crandell's death.
