Search for stolen puppies in NJ

A family is on the serach for a pair of puppies that were stolen from their young owners.9-year-old Skyler Maurer and his 6-year-old brother, Alex, had their Jack Russell Terriers named Spot and Diamond for less than three weeks before they were taken.

While any family would be upset about having their dogs stolen, the Maurer's say the three and a half month old puppies were therapy dogs for the two boys.

Skyler suffers from ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder, known as ODD. Alex has separation anxiety. Their parents say interacting with the puppies made a world of difference in the boys' behavior.

The dogs were stolen from the Maurer's front yard on New Street in Bridgeton at about 9 p.m. Tuesday night. The family said they were out for only about five minutes. Since that night, pictures of Spot and Diamond have been posted in local stores in hopes they'll be found.

The Maurer's can't afford to offer a reward but the Acting Police Chief says he'd offer $100 from his own pocket, if it helped to find the puppies and return them to the children who really miss them.

If anyone sees Spot and Diamond, they should call Bridgeton police at 856-451-0033.
