Authorities say a former Pennsylvania woman is presumed drowned in 10- to 12-foot-high surf on a California beach.

Nineteen-year-old Ann Madden was a 2006 graduate of Wilson High School near Reading. She was living in Petaluma, California.

Officials say she and her fiance - 24-year-old Grant Korte - were trying get her dogs out of the water near Bodega Bay on the Sonoma County coast Saturday when she was knocked down by a wave and swept away. Boats and helicopters searched, but authorities say she remained missing Monday.

Madden's mother, Gail Madden of Spring Township, says her husband, Joseph, went to California and joined in the search. She says he's being told there is "a very slim chance" their daughter will ever be found.
