Bright idea ends up dim

OK, so it turned out to be a not-so-bright idea.

And now, the head of a utility company in western Maryland is apologizing.

The company sent its customers some energy-saving light bulbs, even though the customers hadn't asked for them. And then, the cost was added to their monthly bills.

What's more, the 220,000 packages, each with two of the new bulbs, were sent during the holidays, creating extra chaos for already-frazzled postal handlers.

So now, the president of Allegheny Power has sent out another mailing. According to the Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, he's sent a letter of apology to western Maryland lawmakers.
