The maker of Bubble Wrap says a 13-year-old from North Carolina is the winner of its annual young inventors competition.

Elmwood Park-based Sealed Air Corp. said Sunday that Hannah Haas of Charlotte will take home a $10,000 U.S. savings bond for using Bubble Wrap brand cushioning to create wallpaper designed to stimulate, engage and comfort children with autism.

This was the second year of the competition. More than 1,400 entries were received from students in 39 states.

Other finalists this year included a kite kit and wrist cushions for carpal tunnel syndrome sufferers.

Company officials say it's possible some of the student inventions could be used to create new products.
