Suspect sought in dog killing

GLENDORA, N.J. - January 31, 2008 The shooting happened at 11:30 Tuesday morning in the township's Glendora section.

Susan Duke is devastated over the shooting death of her 9-month-old dog Atticus.

Duke says the 40 pound lab-hound mix was put out in the back yard of her Wilson Street home when moments later her sister heard the dog howling in pain.

At first it was thought that Atticus was bleeding from a cut, but a veterinarian soon determined the dog had been shot.

The bullet, she said, exited his body and has not been recovered.

Atticus underwent surgery, but was put down early Wednesday morning.

Gloucester Township police have been canvassing the Glendora neighborhood hoping to find out who committed the vicious act.

Duke says she's facing a hefty bill and she can't afford to offer a reward. She just wants the person caught and wants to know why someone would shoot her dog.

Anyone with information is urged to call Gloucester Township police at 856-228-4500.
