Rebate checks could be in the mail by the spring. President Bush plans to sign the economic stimulus package sent to him by Congress - and that package includes an expansion of his original plan. Those tax rebate checks will hit mailboxes as early as May and all of them should arrive by summer.

The new economic stimulus package provides for one-time rebates of up to $600 for individuals or $1,200 for couples, plus $300 for each child. Low-income people, including retirees on Social Security and disabled veterans who pay no income taxes, would receive checks of $300.

Lawmakers agreed to eliminate rebates for individuals earning more than 75-thousand-dollars and couples earning more than 150-thousand-dollars.

Starting this week, hundreds of thousands of homeowners will start getting letters from the Federal Housing Administration. The letters are going to at-risk homeowners whose adjustable rate mortgages are being reset. F-H-A wants you to know about affordable alternatives to high-cost mortgages. FHA-insured home loans allow lenders to offer mortgages at a lower interest rate.. FHA also provides a loss mitigation program that helps borrowers against foreclosure. Some borrowers can also refinance with FHA and save on average 400-dollars a month compared to their subprime loans.
