Police say the white male, wearing dark clothing, was originally sitting in the parking lot of a nearby McDonalds. According to witnesses, at one point he stood up, walked over to Route 13 southbound, and laid down in the right lane.
The man then allegedly placed his hand under his head, as if lying on a pillow. He remained in this position until he was struck by a vehicle. The driver pulled over and attempted to alert other cars, however, a second vehicle also struck the subject.
The subject suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
His identity is not known at this time.
Police say the second vehicle that struck the pedestrian left the scene.
The southbound lanes of Route 13 were shutdown while the accident investigation teams worked the scene. Delaware State Police were interviewing a driver at the scene.
