2 hurt in crash involving police SUV

SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - State police say two people, including a Clayton police officer, were injured when a patrol SUV hit a car east of Smyrna. It happened around 3 p.m. at Smyrna-Leipsic and Big Oak roads.

Police say 37-year-old Clayton officer Todd Michelau, of Smyrna, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and his marked Dodge Durango was hit by a Chevrolet Malibu.

The driver of the Malibu, 64-year-old Emma Lawrence, of Dover, was treated at Kent General Hospital in Dover and released.

State police say Michelau was flown to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, treated and released.

Police are still investigating the crash.
