Shore town might ban electronic business signs

OCEAN CITY, N.J. (AP) - March 29, 2008 The Jersey Shore town's council is considering tightening its rules on scrolling message boards and digital displays.

It also may restrict the size of the lettering on some signs.

Some town officials say it's just continuing the dry town's tradition of being family-oriented and less glitzy than Atlantic City to the north or Wildwood to the south.

They say they want to combat "sign pollution."

But others, including some business owners, are concerned that their businesses won't be able to stand out to without the flashy displays.
