Students: Principal made us eat on floor

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - April 4, 2008 The Sumner School students say a black vice principal forced them to eat their lunches on the floor for two weeks after a large water bottle was spilled on a classroom floor earlier this year.

Some community activists are upset that the vice principal was transferred to another school while the Hispanic teacher who first complained about the treatment was suspended.

School officials say the teacher erred by not telling the school's principal about the issue. Instead, they say he told the students to talk to their parents about the discipline.

Activists are calling for the vice principal to be dismissed and the teacher to be reinstated.
