Skybus Airlines filed for bankruptcy the same day it shut down and less than a year after the Columbus, Ohio-based airline began service. Skybus spokesman Bob Tenenbaum says the low-cost carrier filed papers in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware Saturday night.

Skybus was known for its $10 fares and a la carte, pay-per-service flying. It had been hurt by rising fuel prices and a slowing economy.

It is the third airline to shut down in the past week, following Indianapolis-based ATA and Aloha Airlines.
