After many years in the suburbs, Ikea is moving to New York City.

The furniture retailer is opening its first New York City outlet, in Brooklyn, on June 18. The Swedish-based retailer, which sells easy-assembly furniture and housewares, has 34 other stores in the United States, including one in Conshohocken.

The outlets near New York City are in Elizabeth and Paramus, N.J., and in Hicksville on Long Island.

The 346,000-square-foot Brooklyn store will overlook the waterfront in Red Hook.

It will feature 50 different room displays and a 450-seat restaurant with views of the Statue of Liberty and a waterfront esplanade.

The store is on two city bus lines and will offer shuttles to nearby subway stations.
