Atkins pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute marijuana in April 2007. He was accused of conspiring to distribute 1,000 kilograms of marijuana. He was sentenced last week in U.S. District Court in Des Moines.
Federal prosecutors say Atkins was involved in the sale of marijuana in Philadelphia, which was shipped from California. Money from the sales of the marijuana was then transported back across the country to California.
